Long-time Resident, With Previous Council Experience, Runs to Represent Residents in Ward 3

Sandra Walls and her family moved to Trent Hills from rural Whitby in 1989, first in Warkworth and currently in Campbellford. Sandra considers herself a local and is pleased for the opportunity of representing her community.

Sandra’s son, Michael, lives and works in Campbellford and her daughter, Alyssa, lives in Warkworth with her husband Rory and their two sons, Cooper, and Harrison. Both grandsons have attended Percy Centennial Public School in Warkworth. Harrison is in grade 6 at Percy, and Cooper is in grade 9 at Campbellford District High School. Sandra says that she has a great deal riding on doing her part to keep Trent Hills alive and thriving. The most important people in her world are counting on her.

As a local, Sandra has spent nearly all 33 years living, volunteering, and/or working within Trent Hills and/or the County of Northumberland in various capacities, starting as a young Mom, on the Percy Parent/Teacher Committee, and working at Warkworth’s Post office, to now volunteering at the Aron Theatre, and CKOL radio station. Sandra has been a Postmaster, Municipal Councillor, Small Business Owner, and Thrift Store Manager, to name a few, and is confident that her skills and qualifications developed over the years, and throughout the County, make her a well-rounded candidate.

Sandra works as an Employer and Community Liaison, at Career Edge Campbellford, delivering Employment Ontario programs and services to her community. She has frontline, first-hand experience working with residents and business owners, throughout Trent Hills. Sandra says that she interacts daily with the people of Campbellford, Hastings, and Warkworth and loves helping people in her own community. She understands their struggles, their concerns, and their hopes for the future. Sandra is eager to continue to advocate on behalf of these residents and businesses as the council representative for Ward 3.

Sandra is familiar with the local partners, organizations, and agencies, and with resources that are available in Trent Hills and the County of Northumberland. She knows we are fortunate to have access to great County resources but states that it is vital that Trent Hills be strongly represented, both at Council and at the County level, to ensure that residents get their fair share and value for their tax dollars. Sandra wants to ensure County services/programs are accessible to Trent Hills residents.

Sandra knows what it takes to be an effective Municipal Councillor, having served in Alnwick/Haldimand from 2010 – 2014, and she knows what it takes to be an engaged, approachable, and strong representative for her constituents. She has experience working within a 2-tier municipal government as well as an amalgamated municipality, striving to work together as one.

Sandra’s promise to residents, businesses, and the farming community is to place needs over wants, be available to carry your concerns and issues forward to council, always vote in the best interest of this municipality, to make common-sense decisions in a respectful and professional manner, and to bring the answers back to you. Sandra knows Trent Hills, knows the people and the issues. She lives here, works here, volunteers here, and plays here. Being part of a team of people keeping Campbellford and this Municipality alive and growing is a priority for her.

Sandra wants to remind everyone that their vote is their voice, and it matters. She points out that at this level of government, you have a direct say in where and how our tax dollars are spent. Sandra believes that an informed voter is the best voter. Sandra intends to get to every door before the election, but if you haven’t had the opportunity to speak to her yet, she encourages you to send your questions and/or concerns by email or give her a call, she is happy to discuss them.

Sandra has no alliances; she is an independent thinker who believes that her campaign has demonstrated that she is ready to work effectively as part of a team, no matter what the results of the election. Sandra entered this race with no agendas or personal issues to address. She is not afraid to ask tough questions and states that while ribbon cutting and photo ops are all well and good, she knows that it requires much more to get the job done. Sandra reminds you to vote for someone who truly knows this community, what’s required in the position, and who will show up to do the work.

Four years is a long time with the wrong councillor.
