Hastings Historical Society Hosts George McCleary
WHEN: Wed., March 1, 2023
WHERE: Hastings Civic Centre
Hastings - Fri., Feb. 24, 2023 - Hastings Historical Society is very pleased that George McCleary will present his insights on a life spent in public service to this community as well as discoveries he has made from his thorough research of his ancestors and relatives who were the early pioneers of Percy and Alnwick townships.
George is a former mayor of Trent Hills and was formerly Principal of Hillcrest and Percy Centennial schools. His family has been involved in farming in the community since the 1840’s and George recalls a time when most of the field work was still done by horse teams.
George is the author of “Ireland to Canada, The John McCleary Story”, the history of the McCleary patriarch in which is woven an extensive history of ancestors, relatives and in-laws, all supported by photographs and historic documents. George is also the author of “Reflections of Percy Township”. As well, George is the co-author of “Rollings Hills Of Northumberland, A County History” which was a millennium project. At over 300 pages, it is a beautiful and informative history of the county, supported with many compelling photographs and documents.
All are welcome! Free admission. No registration required. Light refreshments will be served.
Books, old calendars and 50/50 tickets will be sold at the meeting. For over 25 years the Hastings Historical Society and its membership and donors have maintained, promoted and supported our local history.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Jennifer Madden of the Hastings library for her invaluable help in arranging these meetings under the Municipal umbrella - this saves the Society both time and money, and is much appreciated. We would also like to thank her for her help in creating and circulating the posters and other information about this event!
