Non-Perishable Food Collected at the Santa Claus Parade

WY ACT is a New Youth leadership Group

Warkworth - Mon., Dec. 5, 2022 - Youth leaders in the Warkworth Community banned together to Sleigh Local Hunger this holiday season. Members of WY ACT (Warkworth Youth Actively Contributing Together) and the local Girl Guide, Pathfinder and Ranger Units were on a mission to collect non-perishable food items in the weeks leading up to and then during the Warkworth Santa Claus parade. The goal was to fill Santa’s Sleigh with food for our local Food Bank.

WY ACT is a new Youth Leadership group which is affiliated with the Warkworth Community Service Club. These leaders are youth aged 11 – 14 who want to make positive contributions to our local community while at the same time providing a venue for their voices to be represented in community decisions/actions. WY ACT currently consists of 14 very enthusiastic youth leaders who are already making a notable difference in Warkworth.

Our mission was a great success.

We gathered one very full pick up truck of donations from our drop-off locations before the parade and again, a second full pickup truck of donations was collected during the parade.

Our community was wonderful, Santa’s Sleigh was hypothetically filled to the brim and more importantly, our Seven Hills Food Pantry shelves are well stocked for the upcoming holiday season!

from left to right are: Maureen and Sony Lennon, Warkworth Fire Chief Don Sayles, Jan Findlay, Shannon Denbroeder-Stockley (Firefighter) and Wayne Flaherty (all four volunteers of the Seven Hills Food Pantry)

Regarding our Sleigh Local Hunger event, the Warkworth Firefighters also asked to join in our mission. Not only did they collect food donations but they are also making an outstanding financial contribution of $1,000 to our Seven Hills Food Pantry.

Community Partners that helped collect food leading up to the parade were:

Percy Centennial Public School

School House Decor

Warkworth Farm Supply

Warkworth Fire Hall and

Warkworth Public Library

Thank you to all who have helped WARKWORTH YOUTH SLEIGH HUNGER this holiday season!
