The return of the Roseneath Fair after a two-year, pandemic-induced hiatus brought attendees and show participants out in droves.

There was about a third more people than usual and about $20,000 more was collected at fair gates because of that, said Roseneath Agricultural Society director and gate volunteer co-ordinator Tracey Taylor.

The fair attendance bracelets ordered for the first of two full fair days, on Oct. 1, “were sold out by noon” and the next day by 2 p.m. so that outdated wrist bracelets and stamps had to be used instead, she said. Final numbers were still being determined a publication time.

“There were huge crowds and Saturday was outstanding,” Taylor said, adding that she heard positive comments about the fair shows and amenities as she travelled between the entrance gates. And of course there was “fantastic weather,” she added.

The Northumberland Cattlemen’s Association held a well attended show at the fair. The tractor pull was astounding and many winners donated back their winnings to the fair board. As usual, the petting zoo filled with farm animals of all kinds was hit – and not only with kids. There were also some birds and a six-month-old water buffalo.

Some fair goers said there was far more going on on the fair grounds than at other local fairs in and near the County, particularly with regards to the number of rides.

The baby show drew a lot of people, as did the dog show on Sunday.

Both the local community and those from outside the region really supported the fair this year, Taylor summed up.
