Trent Hills – Music lessons for all ages, vocal and instrumental, that’s what’s available at a new school called Voices of Light, located north of Campbellford.
Paula and Pat
Retired music teacher Paula Walker-Carrano and her husband, drummer, manager, composer producer Pat Carrano, moved here one year ago, from Durham, with the goal in mind to open a music school and music ministry (SoulCorde).
“I have, from a very young age, been passionate about inspiring young people to find their own passion; their own calling or purpose. I’ve used music as a vehicle since that time to help guide them to that destination,” Paula told Trent Hills Now.
She attended the University of Toronto and studied music education and is certified to teach instrumental music up to and including the high school level.
“So right now it feels like I’m starting over again. Especially having moved from the area where I was teaching and can no longer drive the distance to continue teaching. It’s set me in a vulnerable place, but it’s also challenging me to step up and do something new and return to one of my passions,” she added.
A certified music teacher, published author, arranger, composer and producer as well, Paula taught as a music specialist with the Durham District School Board, for 14 years.
Before that she travelled across Canada as a clinician.
She is the published author of a children’s music series (Warner-Chappell), guiding teachers in “how to effectively teach music, while making it fun,” to young children.
Paula writes musicals for children, to bring awareness about neuro-diversities/neuro differences, mental health, and bullying, and a better understanding of surviving in an ever-shifting and challenging world.
When the couple moved here and bought their house, they knew what they wanted to do, so they renovated their home to include a studio. “We opened up our home to make it accommodating for small groups and individuals,” Paula noted.
Paula’s own children are all musically inclined in one way or another.
“I instilled music into their lives but it was also in their DNA anyway,” Paula commented.
“All three of my children are very talented in their own way. And I have lived vicariously through my famous country singing son, Jade Eagleson,” she said with a chuckle.
