Fundraiser for Ed’s House, Cobourg
When: Sat. Aug. 27 to Sat. Sept. 10
Community Care Northumberland’s Annual Hike, Bike and Bark is back from Aug. 27 to Sept. 10, 2022.
This event is an opportunity to raise funds and awareness for the organization’s hospice services program, based out of Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre, which supports those with a life-threatening illness, their caregivers and loved ones.
Selena Forsyth is a member of our Board of Directors, Chair of the Fundraising Committee, and an active volunteer for Community Care Northumberland (CCN) programs. She has worn a number of hats throughout her long working life but was first and foremost a journalist and writer for print, radio and TV, a producer with CBC and TV Ontario and even wrote a column for the local Port Hope-Cobourg papers for 10 years and was the in-house writer for a local media company.
Selena is once again getting ready for the CCN’s annual Hospice fundraiser, Hike, Bike and Bark. She has been involved for a span of 12 years, and for 12 years has earned the top individual fundraiser award, raising upwards of $50,000! She is now hoping to raise another $6000 in 2022!
If you are new to her page for this annual fundraiser, you can find her (amusing exercise regimen) story and a link to her fundraiser here: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/community-care-northumberland/p2p/Hospice2022/page/selenas-2022-hb-b-for-hospice-fundraiser/
Selena has been using her story (and sending it by email) to get across why raising money for hospice care is so important to her, adding,
“Volunteering for hospice, for me, has to do with people I know that have died alone…it is very important to me to have someone have a good death and not be scared to die…it is a privilege for me to hear their stories about their life.”
“Ed’s House has been my dream for ten years. Every time I hear people saying good things about Ed’s House, it absolutely makes my heart burst!”
Trish Baird, Chief Executive Officer, Community Care Northumberland adds, “There is no cost to access hospice services whether you are living in your home in the community or while a resident at Ed’s House. The funds raised through this event are critical to support hospice care. Many thanks go to Selena’s ongoing efforts to make this event a success year after year.”
There is still time to register for Hike, Bike and Bark as an individual, a family or a team or donate to Selena’s fundraising goal here: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/community-care-northumberland/p2p/Hospice2022/
