Campbellford – On Thursday evening, April 21, local MPP David Piccini will officially congratulate the Aron Theatre Co-op on its 10th Anniversary for the work it has done with a $60,400 Resilient Communities Fund grant received from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) in 2021.

The Resilient Communities Fund grant program was developed to help non-profits rebuild and recover from the impacts of COVID-19.

“Aron Theatre is a cultural hub which keeps the residents of our community active and social,” said David Piccini, MPP for Northumberland-Peterborough South. “I’m thrilled that Aron Theatre received this grant, allowing them to continue to serve our community for many years to come!”

The OTF grant was used by Aron Theatre Co-op to support the re-opening of the theatre after being closed for the first 18-months of the pandemic. Thanks to the grant, the theatre installed a new energy recovery air ventilation system, UVC air purification lights, and deep pleat filters to ensure the best indoor air quality for theatre goers.

“Without the support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the theatre simply couldn’t have re-opened safely,” said Martha Murphy, Treasurer of the Aron Theatre Co-op. “We received advice from Jeffrey Siegel, a University of Toronto Professor whose specialty is indoor air quality. Once we completed the research, we applied to Trillium and they thankfully provided the needed funding.”

The Co-op also developed and implemented a volunteer and community engagement strategy to ensure its safe operation during the pandemic and to co-design new events with the community including concerts, Aron Talks, and special film showings.

One of these events is showing the Canadian film “Beyond Crisis”, a hopeful take on what communities can do about the climate crisis.

The filmmaker, Kai Reimer-Watts and his father, local ecological artist, Richard Watts will provide an introduction to the film and answer questions from the audience after the screening.
