Port Hope Neighbours Raising Money
$10,000 goal
The NewsNowNetwork received an email from Northumberland resident Bill Bickle that says, “Our Port Hope neighbours Olena Hankivsky from Ukraine & Georgi Kvekveskiri from Georgia, and more recently of Idalia House, both know people who have died in Russian invasions of the two countries.”
He then supplied a link to a Northumberland GoFundMe page where there are these short paragraphs detailing the request.
“Dear friends and fellow Northumberland residents and business owners,
We need your help!
Myself and Giorgi Kvekveskiri are Ukrainian and Georgian (a refugee from the Russian invasion of Georgia in 1992). We have family, friends, and colleagues in Ukraine. We know people who have died in this awful war. And have been working tirelessly this last week to fundraise, lobby and support Ukraine, and its people.
From a distance, it is impossibly difficult to bear witness to what is unfolding and to know what to do. We truly feel helpless and heartbroken.
In our small way, we would like to bring together people and businesses in the County who #StandwithUkraine and could donate to our GoFundMe Campaign to raise necessary funds for the Red Cross and Red Cresent Movement to respond to humanitarian needs generated by almost eight years of conflict, as well as preparedness and response efforts due to heightened tensions in Ukraine.
The support could include preparedness, immediate ongoing relief efforts, long-term recovery, resiliency, and other critical humanitarian activities as needs arise, both in Ukraine and surrounding countries, including supporting populations displaced.”
